#FirstOfTheMonth Emergency Fund
#FirstOfTheMonth campaign is a community-led effort in East Palo Alto, Redwood City and Menlo Park to support our lowest-income neighbors with what have said is their greatest need -- rent. Led by 3 women-led non-profits rooted here - Live in Peace, Dreamers Roadmap, and Kafenia, we already reached 187 families for May 1st and can reach over 300 families for rent support through July with your help. Help us help your neighbors, nannies, gardeners, dishwashers, and the parents of amazing students in our schools.
Let them know we have their back. All levels of support help!
How it began...
On April 27, neighbors and community leaders in East Palo Alto, Redwood City, Menlo Park, and Palo Alto came together to launch #FirstOfTheMonth – a campaign to help local families devastated by the impact of COVID-19.
We started with a modest goal of $1 million, aimed at stabilizing 150 families for 3 months through rent relief.
Thanks to support from hundreds of donors and the community’s rapid mobilization, we surpassed our fundraising goal in just 10 days and increased the number of families we were able to serve to 187. Within 48 hours of receiving funds, we provided immediate rent relief directly to the families’ landlords on May 1.
Yet the community’s needs remain overwhelming. The unemployment rate continues to climb during shelter in place. And we’ve identified countless families who are one bill away from losing their home or not having groceries.
Today, we’re excited to announce that because of an outpouring of support from people like you, we are raising our goal to $2 million and 300 new donors.
This new goal means that at least 300 families can be stabilized through the end of July, including those who have already been supported. Doubling the original number of families will allow us to prevent hundreds of children and their parents from losing their homes.
This is why we are asking you to step up and help us surpass our new goal.
This is our community. And the onus is on us.
